Others call us one of Chicago's top civil and criminal defense firms. Clients call us when they need help - and don't want to give in.
For more than 25 years, Genson & Gillespie has provided equally effective defense for prominent public figures and people from everyday life who face white collar criminal and civil charges. Because Ed Genson and Terry Gillespie are criminal defense lawyers who stand ready, willing and able to put prosecutors to their proof, we can often achieve a superior result for our clients. We understand the dynamics of judges and juries, work hard to discover the facts and develop the best strategy, make sure our client understands the issues involved, then go to court to get the best results possible.
We defend our clients in state and federal courts, and other judicial tribunals, throughout Illinois and across the country. National publications like American Lawyer, Chambers & Partners, Lawyers USA and Time Magazine have singled us out as among the top defense lawyers in Chicago, an evaluation that Chicago Magazine, the Chicago Tribune and Chicago Sun Times have echoed.
Ed Genson has practiced law in Chicago for more than 40 years. He worked closely with some of the city’s legendary criminal defense lawyers before opening his own firm, which Terry Gillespie joined in 1984. Since the inception of their partnership, Genson and Gillespie have assisted each other in every case they have tried. In the course of their representation they work closely with Marc Martin, an acknowledged expert in Criminal law and Jeffrey Steinbeck, an expert in the pretrial negotiation of criminal cases and the Federal Sentencing guidelines.
By 1989 the firm was featured in The American Lawyer as a “criminal defense machine” with “the city’s most sought-after” defense lawyers. That is a reputation we have maintained for more than 20 years. Then as now, we are headquartered on the fourteenth floor of the Monadnock Building at 53 West Jackson Boulevard in Chicago’s Loop – directly across the street from the Federal Courthouse. Then as now, we are ready to go to trial in defense of our clients.
